2025 Holbrook Humphries Award - Amy Campbell
Amy Campbell is the Director of Learning & Development at the American Printing House for the Blind (APH), where she leads initiatives to strengthen professional learning in the field of visual impairment. With more than 25 years of experience, Amy began her career as a Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments and has remained passionate about improving educational outcomes for children who are blind or low vision. She joined APH in 2020, where she helped launch and build APH’s Hive from the ground up. Under her leadership, the Hive has grown to include more than 50 impactful courses and resources that empower vision educators nationwide. Amy has presented at numerous national conferences and contributed to Practice Perspectives in the Journal of Visual Impairment & Blindness. Outside of work, she enjoys classic movies, food she didn’t cook, convincing her two sons to play the board game Life.
2025 Alan Koenig Research Award - Mackenzie Saviano
Dr. Mackenzie Savaiano is an educator, researcher, and leader dedicated to advancing equitable learning opportunities for students with visual impairments and deafblindness. She serves as an Associate Professor of Practice at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, where she also directs programs that prepare future teachers of students with visual impairments. Dr. Savaiano’s scholarship and teaching emphasize literacy, access to the general curriculum, and evidence-based instructional strategies. Her research contributions focus on reading instruction, braille literacy, and writing instruction for students who are blind or visually impaired.
